Game #12 Recap Vs. Islanders

Hello!

That was a good game, but like their last win, it could have been better. Nice goals from Roy and Vanek, then a great effort by Gaustad t ojam that one through. Great goaltending, that is what really pulled them through, otherwise that might have not turned out so well. Good defense, powerplay is still a little lacking, I'm sure that Vanek not really doing a ton on the powerplay this season isn't helping. Connolly has been great so far, same woth MacArthur.

Game #11 Recap at Islanders

Hello!

That was horrible. I can't believe they lost 0-5 to the Islanders of all teams. Myers made a pretty darn bad play to give away the puck, he held on to the waaaaaaaaaaaay too long.
Lalime actually had a better night than Miller, in my opinion, Miller just semmed tired. Lalime really needs to work on those five-hole shots that trickle in. Overall, that was horrible.

That was a pretty good game, but it cuold have been better. They had some good plays and some bad ones, like what was Pomminville thinking on that drop pass, luckily we have one of the best goalies in the league.

Game #9 Recap at Devils

Hello!

This is a bit of a late post. They looked good most of the night, but they gave up a few bad breaks, including what looked like a goal but somehow Ryan Miller defied the laws of physics to make the amazing save. That save really kept us in the game, then a couple goals later the game was in the bag. That was a really great game, especially Kennedy with his first NHL goal on Brodeur. Overall, that was a good game. I am very happy with how this team has been playing lately.

Game #9 Preview at Devils

Hello!

Sabres at Devils = uh-oh. I'm hoping that the Sabres can keep up the good work, but looking at the Devils in the past is not looking good. I hope that the Sabres beat them, I hate the Devils. It's always nice to see the Sabres win, plus there are that many more points less to go until the playoffs. So I would say that the keys of the game are: Sabres: Jump out early. Pressure hard all game long, take lots of shots, create offensive zone turnovers, and BE MEAN. Just keep it up the way you've been playing, and that should be a win. Oh, yeah and Tyler Myers, keep up the good work, make Lindy's decision easier. Devils: Jump out early, shoot, play hard defense, don't take stupid penalties. This should be a fun game, I hope we come away with a big fat W.

Game #8 Recap at Lightning

Good game on Saturday. Myers, game winner in the Shootout, another reason to keep him on the team. Grier has yet another goal, Miller another great game, great, great goal by Stafford to tie the game up. That is one of the few times that I have seen a pulled goalie actually work.

Game #7 Recap at Panthers

Everything first period was great, Miller was the main good thing the other two periods. two goals on your first three shots is awesome, they almost chased Vokoun too. Defense could be shored a little, I mean first period was great but the second two if they had Lalime in net they would have lost. Great game from the forwards, would have been nice if the Sabres could have put some more in, but I'm not complaining. Myers, you should stay, 2 goals in 7 games is amazing for a defenseman, let alone a rookie. This is the team I would like to see for the rest of the season, maybe just a little more like the first period than the rest of this game. Miller had several epic saves, especially that one on Booth, and that one that was creeping in and he managed to recover. 41 saves. Woooooooooooooooohoo! This season should be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Game #6 Recap Vs. Thrashers

Ouch. That is all there really is to say. Ouch. Ouchouchouch. that was a VERY VERY bad game. Why couldn't Afinogenov play like that as a Sabre? WE NEED A BETTER BACKUP. REPEAT: WE NEED A BACKUP. Not a goalie that will rip your head off but not make a decent save. A BACKUP GOALIE THAT CAN MAKE THE BIG SAVE! Ok. Enough Lalime bashing. Myers, Myers, Myers. This is not Squirts. This is the NHL. Hit Max, no goal. Don't hit Max, sit there like a hypnotised duck, and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAL!!!!!!!!!!! What a play by Max. TRAITOR!!!!!!!!! First time I have nothing but bad things to say about Myers. Well, nice goals from Stafford and MacArthur, both good plays. I noticed 1 thing on the second (?) goal by Kovulchuk. They let him size that up for about two seconds before he scored. Dang, that was embarrassing.

Game #5 Recap vs. Islanders

Good game vs. the Isles, it was the Islanders but they still got 6 goals without Vanek. C-Mac had a great game with that penalty shot, it was quite the deke, then just barely managing to sneak it under. Kaleta is on a role. More goalie chasing is nice to see. Too bad about that blooper on Miller, we all make mistakes. Myers with his first goal as an NHLer, maybe he will replace Spacek. Miller had a couple huge saves, that is nice to see, even with that BAD goal. altogether, this is the team I want to see, maybe a little tighter defensively.

Game #4 Recap vs Red Wings

Hello!

6-2 win vs. the Red Wings of Detroit is a very happy thing. Outshot in a period for the first time this season, I would love to see more of their goalie chasing ability this season, Vanek and Kaleta played great, Vanek how I know he can, Kaleta the way I never realised he could. Myers, another game to show that he belongs in the NHL, second assist in only four games. Great stop on that Filppula penalty shot by Miller, great patience there. Overall that was a great game, Sabres befuddled a Wings team from Osgood to Datsyuk, Howard to Lidstrom to Cleary we befuddled them. Great game, I would love to see more of this later in the season, hopefully deep into the playoffs.

Game #3 Recap at Predators

Great effort by Miller to get a shutout, Myers has been great. I love seeing them shooting so much, they have not been outshot in a period or game yet, they just need to sink more of them. 1-0 is good, I'm just happy that they are shutting down other teams comebacks, last year in too many games they would have lost here. Only team with a winning record + no regulation losses. This game the team as a whole looked great, and I feel like I can't say that too much. :-D

Game #2 Recap vs. Coyotes

Can't believe I forgot about recaps! So they looked good in game 2, shutting down a Coyotes team that was undefeated and WINNING A CLOSE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am happy to say that the Sabres (surprise, surprise) have developed a knack for winning close games. Much better than last season, in which too many games saw a 3rd period Sabres lead turn into a tie with very few seconds left, then a Sabres loss in OT or SO. This game they played well, winning by 1 goal and not breaking down to lose that lead in the third. Things are looking up.

Real Hockey Starts Soon

Hello!

The regular season starts Saturday for the Sabres. A 4-1-1 record in the preseason points (in my mind) to a good start in the regular season as well. I hope that they will make the playoffs this season, and I hope that Miller and Vanek can stay healthy, and we can always hope that Tim Connolly can stay healthy, but that probably will not happen. We really could use a better backup than Lalime, but we lost Telqvist to the KHL, and I think that at this point Regier is done with signing/trading people.

I hope the Sabres will make the playoffs this season. I would expect that they will do better, especially if Connolly and Miller can stay healthy. I really DO NOT GET how Regier can keep signing other people but not Stafford, it is rather annoying.

I like the Jeff Cowan signing, but I wish we WOULD JUST HURRY UP AND SIGN DREW! I'm getting tired of all the dawdling about signing Stafford, there are only 19 days until the Sabres first pre-season game, and STILL NO STAFFORD!!!!!!! WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM????? JUST SIGN HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please. Wow. Does this really have to take this long to sign him? I just hope we do...

We Are TOUGH!!!

I really enjoyed seeing Steve Montador, followed by Cody McCormick, followed by Mike Grier joining the team for this upcoming season, adding some grit to one of the softer teams in the NHL. Draft picks like Zack Kassian and Tyler Myers were also nice to see. We got pretty big and tough in a pretty short time, but seeing Stafford back on the team will be nice, if it happens, which I hope that it will. I like seeing the low penalty minutes on Grier, which (I hope) means he hits hard but clean. Overall I think we will be a much different/ better team next season.

I read that Peter Forsberg may be retiring. The Sabres have been quiet this offseason, but I really like that they signed Cody McCormick, Steve Montador, and Mike Grier, I'm hoping they'll re-sign Drew Stafford soon. Too bad that Mikael Telqvist is now in the KHL. Teppo Numminen retired, a good choice but kind of too bad, we lost Spacek to the Canadiens, which is also too bad. I'm very happy that Dominic Moore, Maxim Afinogenov, and Andrew Peters will most probably not be coming back. On Die By The Blade, I saw a fanpost called "The Darcy Regier era: Great Trades, but I was just thinking that one of the very bad trades of late was Ales Kotalik for a second round draft pick, then the second rounder for Dominic Moore. That trade pretty much equals Kotalik for Moore, which was a pretty bad deal. Moore ended with 1 goal and 3 assists in 18 games, while Kotalik went on to score another 7 goals and 4 assists in 19 games. My analysis is that was a TERRIBLE trade! Now that does not mean that I think that Darcy hasn't made some very good trades, but that one really stands out as a bad one. I will have to write a tribute to Numminen, Forsberg, and Joe Sakic, who also retired.

Teppo Numminen Tribute

Hello!

Teppo chose the perfect time in his career to retire. He had heart surgery two years ago, so I hope he has good luck with that. I really liked having him on the team, he was a great d-man.
I think he was a great mentor for the up-and-coming young guys like Chris Butler.
